Main Purpose:
The primary objective of the Layer and Grading/Packing Manager is to achieve maximum productivity and profitability in the layer and grading/packing sites ensuring that all related standards and policies are actively managed and adhered to.
Key Duties and Responsibilities:
Coordinate all production related activities in order to achieve optimal production output efficiencies.
- Plan production periods and conduct required forecasting of productions and resource requirements.
- Ensure that agreed standards and targets are achieved.
- Ensure superior quality and grading.
- Implement vaccination program as per operational guidelines to ensure timely and efficient vaccination of birds in order to obtain required immunity.
- Conduct daily house inspections and where necessary take corrective actions.
- Coordinate offloading of feed trucks and verify deliveries against orders.
- Maintain flock health program and ensure continuous monitoring, bleeding, vaccination and post mortems are conducted and recorded.
- Oversee the layer operation ensuring that all aspects of animal husbandry are adequately managed and that operation standards in terms of FLAWS (feed, light, air water and sanitation) are without exception being executed on, and actively maintained.
Maintain and ensure compliance of bio security rules and regulations.
- Ensure strict housekeeping standards are met and maintained.
- Plan and coordinate cleaning and preparation of chicken houses to compliment bio-security rules and placing schedules.
- Schedule the cleaning and disinfection of all vehicles entering the layer site.
- Monitor action plans and evaluate progress.
- Implement corrective actions where necessary.
Ensure compliance with all relevant legislation as well as Group policies and procedures.
- Maintain a safe and healthy working environment.
- Manage issuing of Personal Protective Equipment.
- Ensure compliance with all applicable labour legislation.
Manage the flow of production information utilizing the farm operating system.
- Do daily integrity checks of weights.
- Check and confirm total numbers of chickens.
- Process and verify required documentation – check sheets, stock control register, vaccination program, loading schedules etc. as per required standard.
- Capture mortalities on farm operating system.
- Management reports as may be requested.
- Take corrective actions where necessary.
Other required Administration.
- Oversee external orders with regards to vaccinations and feed.
- Manage all layer site and Grading/Packing site staff.
Any other reasonable duties that may be required by your superior from time to time.
