Role Overview
The Business Development Manager will be responsible for driving sales and business growth within the telecom contracting sector, with an annual quota to achieve. The target customers include private contractors, Oil & Gas companies, Defense organizations, and telecom operators, with a focus on Outside Plant (OSP) and Inside Plant (ISP) networks.
The role requires identifying market opportunities, building strong customer relationships, creating market intelligence mechanisms, and ensuring the organization meets its business objectives. This individual will play a vital role in ensuring diversification, driving innovation, and creating opportunities within the infrastructure development sector.
This is an exciting opportunity for a seasoned business development professional to lead UCL’s growth initiatives in the telecom sector.
Key Responsibilities
Business Development & Market Strategy
- Identify and explore new market opportunities, tenders, forums, and events where UCL solutions can be promoted, especially with Infrastructure Contractors and other sectors such as power, oil & gas, and developers.
- Develop and implement sales strategies to achieve project turnover targets, in line with objectives set by the Business Unit Head.
- Create and communicate value propositions and unique selling points to customers to establish UCL as a preferred service provider.
- Establish and maintain relationships with customers to expand business vertically.
- Develop company portfolio of OSP products.
Sales Management & Operational Support
- Lead and manage sales activities to achieve business goals and sales targets, while ensuring alignment with company policies and regulatory requirements.
- Own RFx responses, bid preparation, and submission processes and coordinate with internal and external stakeholders for this purpose.
- Collaborate with solution architects to develop tailored solutions for customers and ensure technical accuracy in proposals.
- Provide bid management support in selected cases and support partner management for enhanced collaboration.
Market Intelligence & Relationship Management
- Build and maintain a database of market intelligence, including competitors, pricing trends, and emerging technologies.
- Foster strong relationships with key customers and stakeholders within the telecom ecosystem to drive repeat business and customer loyalty.
- Ensure that market requirements are effectively communicated to the solution management team to guide innovation and product/service enhancements.
Innovation & Continuous Improvement
- Identify opportunities for diversification and innovation within the telecom industry, particularly in active and passive equipment.
- Encourage team collaboration and contribute to knowledge-sharing initiatives to foster a culture of continuous learning and improvement.
Candidate Profile
Qualifications
- Graduate in engineering (preferably civil engineering, telecommunications, or electrical engineering).
- Post-graduate qualifications in Business Management are an added advantage.
Experience
- Minimum of 10 years of experience in business development within the telecom OSP & ISP networks, OEM, or services sector.
- Proven track record of business development success in UAE/GCC markets.
- Strong knowledge of telecom infrastructure, including engineering products, services, and network infrastructure.
- Excellent exposure to the Infrastructure Contractors segment (Currently he must be selling products or services to this segment)
Technical & Soft Skills
- In-depth knowledge of contemporary telecom technologies, business development strategies, and project execution.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills for effective interaction with clients, stakeholders, and team members.
- Proficiency in creating and presenting strategic plans, value propositions, and technical solutions.
- Highly self-motivated, target-oriented, and adaptable to diverse roles and responsibilities.
- Flexibility to accommodate varied work assignments, extended hours, and frequent travel when required.
